James “Shorty” Edwards July 31, 1933 – January 17, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Peachland – Mr. James W. “Shorty” Edwards, 85, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Hospice House in Monroe. Born July 31, 1933 in Anson County, he was a son of the late James Clyde Edwards and Lily Ruth Horne Edwards. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Clint Edwards. Funeral services will be 3PM Sunday from the Chapel of Morgan & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Peachland City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 – 2:45. James’ surviving family includes his wife, Christine Pigg Edwards of the home; son James “Jamie” Edwards and his wife Victoria of Marshville, NC, daughter, Lynn Edwards Swacker and her husband Steve of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; sister, Helen Jean Tarlton of Matthews, NC; grandchildren Nick Horne and his wife Amanda of Monroe, NC, Natalie Bishop and her husband Steven of Shelby, NC, and Kaitlin Edwards of Indian Land, SC; great grandchildren Brayden and Justus Horne of Monroe. Extended family includes Lee Pigg, wife Michelle and daughter Brittany of Monroe, NC, Dale Rivers and husband Scott, Mary Kait Parker, husband Erin and son Eli, Benjamin Rivers – all of Wadesboro, NC. James lived most of his life in Peachland, except for a few years as a youngster, he lived in Laurel Hill, NC. He also served 4 years in the US Army. His military commitment occurred during the Korean conflict where he served as a military policeman @ Hickam Field, Hawaii. Although he enjoyed his military service, when his tour ended, he happily returned to Peachland. He worked for the NC Agriculture Department as a poultry grader for years until retirement. An avid sportsman and sports enthusiast, He hunted whenever time allowed. In his youth he pitched for his school baseball team and other local teams that were aware of his exceptional abilities. He followed sporting events religiously – particularly college athletics. He could recall team statistics and player(s) information on most all sport venues nationwide. He loved dogs, owned and trained many to be obedient as well as good hunters. He was locally recognized for his ability to train even the most contrary canine. Above all, James loved his family – always concerned for their well-being. He will be greatly missed by all.
