Obituary for James R Dodson He was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a son of the late C.E. and Mary Evans Dodson. He was also preceded in death by his wife Barbara McIntyre Dodson, a sister, Ruth Dodson Thomas and a brother, Eugene Dodson. He was an active member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Home Service Class. He was a graduate of the McMinn County High School Class of 1952, and served as President of his class. He graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan University. He was a teacher and supervisor for 33 years with the Athens City School System, was a dedicated community volunteer, was a member of the Tennessee Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame, ASA Softball Hall of Fame, and was a High School and College sports referee. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Tim Jennings of Decatur; a son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Ann Dodson of Athens; three granddaughters, Mary Ann Dodson, Katie Jennings Maddron, and Kirstie Jennings Neely; a grandson, Will Dodson; and three great-granddaughters, Annslee Maddron, Acelynn Maddron, and Lynnlee Neely. A funeral service will be conducted, 7:00 pm, Monday, January 21, 2019 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. David Graybeal officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 pm Monday at the funeral home prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be The Home Service Class of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church.
