OBITUARY James Joseph Panipinto January 1, 1923 – January 20, 2019 James Joseph Panipinto, Jim to his friends, departed this life on January 20th, 2019 at the age of 96. He was born January 1, 1923, in Luke, MD. The only son of Sicilian immigrant parents, Cruciano and Colegero Panipinto, he grew up in New York with his four sisters. He met the love of his life, Helen Houghton, at a USO dance while in the Armed Services in Florida and they married in 1946. For 60 years he lived in Jacksonville, FL raising their 3 children, James, Jr.(Jim), Mary and Judy. He moved to Tennessee after Helen died and had lived there the past 10 years. Jim’s military service included the Army Air Corp and the US Navy. His work life post military was 30 years as a Civil Servant at NAS Jacksonville. He was an active member at Lake Shore Presbyterian Church for 50 plus years serving as an elder and deacon. He loved his Sunday school class and enjoyed the Salt and Pepper group. Other activities included being a leader of Boy Scout Troop #252 and Cub Pack #252 at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church. Jim was a Perpetual member of Hyde Park Masonic Lodge, held the office of Worshipful Master in 1990 and was an active member until his move to Tennessee. He held membership in the Scottish Rite Bodies of Jacksonville and was past Patron of the Scottish Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #295. His favorite hobby after retirement was his woodworking and many hours were spent in his shop making a range of useful items for his family and toys for his grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen; his parents, Cruciano (Louie) and Colegero (Mary); and his sisters, Antonia and Jeanette. He leaves behind his children James Panipinto, wife, Sue, Mary Robinson, husband, Dan, and Judith Phelps, husband, Bill. He also leaves 7 grandchildren, Laura, Elliott and Libby Panipinto, Elizabeth and Catherine Robinson, Chelsea Phelps Bethea and Taylor Phelps; one great grandchild, William Bethea and Jim’s two sisters, Elizabeth Rondinelli and Josephine Melling. A service of remembrance will be held at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church, Monday, January 28, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. with interment at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in his memory. HARDAGE-GIDDENS RIVERSIDE MEMORIAL PARK AND FUNERAL HOME, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, is serving the family.
