James H. Shipley, 54, of Virginia Beach, went to be with the Lord, Friday, January 4, 2019. Born in New York, he was the son of Dixie F. Shipley and the late Ian M. Shipley. Jim was retired from the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office after 31 years, where he was Chief Deputy, and served a distinguished career. Most recently, he was the Director of Operations at Great Neck Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. Including his mother, Jim is survived by his wife, Lori; “bonus” kids, Hannah and Kaden;… Read More » a brother, John (Kareena); nieces, Laurin and Angela, as well as extended family and many close friends. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 11, 2019 at Great Neck Baptist Church, 1020 General Jackson Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. A reception will follow the service at the church. A graveside committal service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Friday in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, Chesapeake. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Great Neck Baptist Church Building Fund. Friends are invited to sign the online guest book at www.omanfh.com.
