Hugh Whitlatch, age 87, of rural Knoxville, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 at his home. Hugh was born on March 20, 1931, to Victor and Florence (Hill) Whitlatch, at the same home where he passed away. Hugh attended Springfield Rural Elementary and graduated from Attica High School in 1948. After graduation, Hugh attended Iowa State University for two years. A few years later, Hugh married the love of his life, Germaine (Hart) on February 10, 1951 at the Attica Methodist Church. After this union, they worked for Hugh’s dad and uncles before moving to a dairy farm outside of Knoxville, which they operated for three years. Hugh continued on with his love of the land and purchased a farm from Guy and Bessie Spaur. Hugh and Germaine farmed there until they made their final land purchase of the family farm, where Hugh grew up. This is where they raised their two children, Ted and Sharon, and made many wonderful life-long memories. Those left to cherish Hugh’s memory include his devoted wife, Germaine Whitlatch; daughter, Sharon (Whitlatch) Allspach; son-in-law, Stan Allspach; two grandchildren, Angie (Chad) Pietig, and Aaron (Jessica) Allspach. Hugh was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Payton, Harper, Piper, and Parker; also one brother, Richard Whitlatch of Knoxville. He loved his family dearly. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Florence (Hill) Whitlatch; his son, Ted Whitlatch; and one sister, Annabel Bristow. They are all rejoicing now in their reunion in Heaven. Memorials may be given in Hugh’s memory to Every Step Hospice of Knoxville, and Olive Chapel Methodist Church.
