Obituary for Hedwig “Hedi” P. Thomas (Friedaabach) Print Hedwig Paula “Hedi” Thomas, 90 of Independence, MO passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 at Shangri-La Care Center in Blue Springs, MO. Cremation is planned with a memorial gathering to celebrate her life to be held from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening, February 1, 2019, at the Speaks Buckner Chapel, 300 Adams St., Buckner, MO 64016. “Hedi” was born September 10, 1928 in Ludwigshaffen, Germany to Hugo and Anna G. (Huber) Friedabach. She married Henry Thomas on August 28, 1951 and moved to the US in 1953. She had worked as a teacher for the Buckner School District and later as a librarian for the Mid Continent Library. She enjoyed cooking and crocheting. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Buckner for several years. Survivors include; a daughter, Shirley Lay and husband Gary of Pleasant Hill, MO; a son, Norman Thomas and wife Deborah of Buckner, MO; 5 grandchildren, Shaunna, Jeffrey, Lauren, Carolyn and Brian and 6 great grandchildren, Delaney, Alayna, Lanyn, Melody, Edison and Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1974, her parents, a brother, Tony Friedabach and a sister, Helma Haas.
