He was a resident of Clarkesville, Georgia. Gordon was born in North Georgetown, Ohio. A child of the depression, he went to live with family friends. In this environment, he was exposed to life on the farm. His foster father taught him many skills that he used throughout his life. It was also during this time that Gordon became fascinated by airplanes. He would travel all over to go to airshows and saved his money to pay for airplane rides. He dreamt of being a pilot himself. With World War II underway, he achieved his dreams. He was accepted into Aviation Cadets, earned his wings, and was assigned as a pilot in the European Theater with the Eighth Air Force. He flew the B-17 Flying Fortress. During one mission, his plane was shot down over Germany. He was wounding during this event, for which he received the Purple Heart. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations. His career allowed him to travel the world. After retiring from the service, Gordon moved his family to Florida. He decided to go to college and earned a degree in business. He continued his work career, by first working for his brother-in-law in the TV and radio business. He would later serve as the Deputy Tax Collector of Pasco County and several other managerial jobs in the area. His last place of employment was at the Dade City Post Office. When retirement came, he moved to the mountains of North Georgia, but his love for Florida never completely faded.
