Gilberte “Betty” Hunter, 90, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2019. Betty was born on July 28, 1928 in Edmundston, Canada—just a few miles from Madawaska, Maine where she grew up with her many brothers and sisters. Betty truly loved deeply in life. She loved her bonhomme, Merle Hunter, and more than anything else, she loved her children— Greg, Gloria, Darrell, Candace, Cynthia and Mandy. Betty always loved to share stories and to sing songs, especially “A Bushel and Peck.” Her laughter, silly nature and spontaneity was truly contagious. Over the years, Betty worked at the Vaughan House in Caribou, ME, the Country Colonial in Southwick, MA and as a business owner at The Country Cottage in Wilton, ME. Betty had a profound faith in God and believed deeply in the Catholic religion. She taught CCD classes for many years and was active in the community as a member of the Huntington Lions Club and the Huntington Housing Authority. Betty had a passion for travel which took her to many countries all over the world. Betty’s memory reminds us all to be resilient, love deeply and to remember that when the going gets tough, “C’est La Vie.” She is truly missed by her brother, Lawrence Raymond and wife Nancy, her 6 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, February 1, 2019 from 11:30-1 PM at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St, Westfield, MA with a memorial service at 1 PM.
