Obituary of George Beam George Harrison Beam, age 82, passed away January 22, 2019 at Baptist Hospital, Oxford, MS. After graduation from Sunflower High School in 1955, he began a career with South Central Bell, retiring in 1987 with 31 years of service. George was a “people” person and was known for his good works. He tried to do one good deed for someone each day. He was a member of Rena Lara Baptist Church. He was a member of the Clarksdale Masonic Lodge, Wahabi Temple Shriners and the Eastern Star. He was a former member of Coahoma County Country Club and Delta Senior Golfers. He was also a former member and past Exalted Ruler of Clarksdale Elks Club. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Lou Beam, 2 daughters Patsy Johnson (Gene) of Memphis and Beverly Magliano (Phil) of Eureka, CA, Son George Harrison Beam, Jr. (Pete) of Senatobia, 2 stepsons Chris Doss (Lisa) of Clarksdale and Mark Doss (Vickie) of Rena Lara, a sister Faye Spurr (Bill) of Memphis, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents Walton and Mayme L. Beam, 4 brothers Charles, John, Elwood and Richard Beam and a granddaughter Jayme Beam. Visitation will be Saturday, January 26 from 3:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home, Service following at 4:00 P.M. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens, Clarksdale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rena Lara Baptist Church. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.
