He was born 1933 in Los Angeles, California, to Gail Ashby Barnes and Dorothea McBroom Barnes. Prior to moving to Pinellas Park, Florida, he also lived in Brookings, Oregon, and Las Vegas, Nevada. He served his country in the Air Force and the Marines. He worked as a private investigator most of his life, having founded George L. Barnes and Associates, which was later run by his children. George Barnes was Catholic and belonged to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer and also loved fishing. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, James Walter Barnes, and his son, James Edward Barnes. He is survived by his loving wife, Thu Barnes, his children Gail Barnes and Mark Barnes, his step-daughter, Rosie Farello, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was loved, respected, and will be missed by many people including, Bill and Robbie Young, Ken and Mary Hodge, Chuck Narvaez, and Charlie Dupris. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019, at noon, at the Bayou Club, 7979 Bayou Club Blvd., Pinellas Park, FL 33777.
