Obituary of Doris Markewicz Doris M. Markewicz, 91, of Chester, NJ passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Heath Village in Hackettstown, NJ. Doris was born in Linden, NJ and lived in several Northern New Jersey towns as a child. Doris worked as an administrative assistant at the Kresge Department Store in Newark before being asked to do professional modeling. In 1951 she married Fred Markewicz, moved to Chester and they built their home on the Markewicz family property, where they lived for over 60 years raising their four boys. Doris enjoyed gardening and on sunny days could be found on the riding mower mowing the lawn. She loved music, movies, spending time outdoors, especially at the beach in Lavallette. Other interests included baking, crossword puzzles, and reading sentimental phrases and sayings. She loved animals and as part of the family homestead helped to raise chickens, rabbits, ducks, dogs, cats and even a pet skunk. During the winter months, she enjoyed golfing and the warmth of Bonita Beach Florida with Fred. Doris also managed the finances of the family printing business, MARK Lithographers. Most of all, she was passionate about spending time with her family. Doris is survived by her 4 sons: Jeff of Colorado, Todd and Benita of Whitehouse Station, Drew and Tina of Chester, and Bruce and Ursula of Branchburg, 3 grandchildren: Ashley Marie, Matthew Robert, and Brian Anthony. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Fred Markewicz and beautiful daughter-in-law, Barbara. A Celebration of the Life of Doris will include a visitation on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 4pm to 8pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090. A 10:30am funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5 at St. Lawrence Church in Chester, NJ. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Chester, NJ. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Heath Village staff for taking such great care of Doris during the past few years. In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of Doris, pay it forward by sharing a smile, cuddling an animal, or showing compassion to others.
