Obituary for Dessie Lena Combs Smith Dessie Lena Combs Smith, 100, of Murrayville passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at her home in Murrayville. She was born, Jan. 10, 1918, in Jacksonville. Dessie was the daughter of Frank E. and Reffina Jacinto Day. She married Martin Combs, Dec. 26, 1935. He preceded her in death. In 1967, Dessie married Russell E. Smith. He preceded her in death in 1993. Surviving is one son, Martin L. (Patricia) Combs Jr. of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren and two daughters-in-law, Wanda Combs of KY and Virginia Combs of FL. She was preceded in death by three sons, John F., Francis A., and Walter W. Combs; two grandchildren, Mark A. Combs and Sharon Pickett and five siblings. Dessie was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Jacksonville State Hospital for 35 years. She was of the Presbyterian faith. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Murrayville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, at the funeral home with interment in the Murrayville City Cemetery.
