Charles E. May June 4, 1923 – December 28, 2018 Charles Edwin May died peacefully at his residence in Cincinnati, OH December 28, 2018. He was 95 years old. Born June 4, 1923 in Barberton, OH, Charles was raised in Vanceburg, KY. The youngest of four children, he enjoyed the farm life and was an avid hunter and fisherman. After graduating from Lewis County High School, he attended Berea College; his freshman year interrupted, as he felt compelled to enlist in the Army. He saw action in France and Belgium with the 11th Armor Division in the winter of 1944-1945 where he earned the Purple Heart. After returning to Kentucky, he completed his college education at the University of Kentucky, becoming both a mechanical engineer and a lifelong fan of “The Big Blue”. Following his graduation, Charles accepted a position in Louisville, KY with the Matt Corcoran Company, a position he would enjoy his entire career. While riding the bus to work, he met and subsequently married Mary Jean Bickel. Following his retirement, they moved to Cincinnati, OH where they remained until death. Preceded in death by his wife Mary Jean, he is survived by son David Crockett May (Pat) of Dallas, TX and daughter Carrie May Ayer (Jeff) of Cincinnati, grandchildren Chas Maxwell, Noah Maxwell and Brielle Ayer of Cincinnati, Dennis Wittry (Dawn) of Houston and Rebecca Vanyo (Todd) of Dallas and great grandchildren Jakob and Elaina Wittry of Houston and Amelia, Charlotte and Sabrina Vanyo of Dallas.
