Carmen Hope Ryan February 09, 1957 – January 20, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries Carmen Hope Ryan was born on February 9, 1957 in Anthony, Kansas to Harold Henry and Viola Bell (Martin) Thiel. One of 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls, her family made their home in Freeport, Kansas. This is where Carmen went to grade school. She then started high school at Chaparral and the family moved to Harper, Kansas. Uniting in marriage with Lester Young in Harper, she was blessed with two children, Melody and Michael. On February 17, 1980, Carmen married Michael Ryan in Harper and she was blessed with a third child, Shawn. The family moved to Anthony, Kansas in the mid 1990’s. Carmen worked for 19 years at Farrar Corporation in Norwich, Kansas as a core maker. She then went to work for Cobblestone Inn in Anthony as a housekeeper before retiring towards the end of 2018. For many years, Carmen enjoyed calligraphy. Later in life she spent a lot of her time on her iPad and diamond painting. Her grandkids were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them. On January 20, 2019, Carmen passed away unexpectedly at the Anthony Hospital at the age of 61 years, 11 months, and 11 days. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Viola Thiel; her son, Michael Young, and her brothers: Clayton, Ben, and Harold Thiel. She will be missed by her husband, Michael Ryan of the home; daughter, Melody Young of Anthony; son, Shawn Ryan and his wife, Ashley of Conway Springs, Kansas; grandchildren: Darren Ryan, Jorie Ryan, Josie Ryan, and Cade Howell; sister, Brenda Kilpatrick and her husband, Willis of Rose Hill, Kansas; other relatives and friends. Friends may register 9:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral service is 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Harper with Pastor Ed Hughlett officiating. Interment will follow at the Harper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and can be left in care of the funeral home.
