Betty Williams August 30 1942 January 27 2019 (age 76)

Betty Williams, of North Salt Lake, UT, passed away on Sunday January 27, 2019, in her home with her husband by her side. We lost an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. It’s never easy to lose a loved one, but it is comforting to know she’s not in pain any longer. We all love her and will miss her dearly. Betty was born in Alma, Michigan on August 30, 1942 to Bernard and Marie Walker. Some of her favorite memories were of growing up on the farm and showing her steer at the county fair. While she enjoyed reminiscing about her childhood, Betty had no desire to live on a farm again. Betty and her sister, Sharon, both became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as young adults. Sharon moved to Salt Lake City and Betty soon followed at the age of 24. Betty met Dan shortly after moving to Salt Lake City. Dan and his friend, Barney, were driving down State Street and saw Betty and her friend standing at a bus stop. Dan and Barney pulled over to chat with them and try as he might he could not get her to go for a ride with them, but he was persistent and Betty’s friend wanted to go. Betty and her friend finally climbed in the car, Betty with Barney and her friend with Dan. They soon realized they were each with the wrong person. Dan and Betty married on December 31, 1966 in Wendover NV, along with their best friends Dave and Fran Banford. Dan brought with him three children who Betty gave her heart and loved as well as the two they had together. Betty was so full of love that she needed to spread it beyond just her own children, so she ran a home daycare for 30 years. Where she was able to spend her days with her Grandchildren, and the Children of many Friends. When Dan and Betty retired, they spent their winters in Arizona in their trailer. They met many new friends and spent the summers looking forward to going back. Friday nights in Arizona, filled with music from the band, dancing, and good times with friends, were some of their fondest times. As one of her grandkids said, she accepted us for who and what we are. She was always there to lend a helping hand and was a woman of extreme strength, courage and love. Our mom was beautiful, steady, and funny. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years: Dan, her 5 children: Joe (Juanita), Diane (Kevin), Rose (Mikey), Tammy (Mike), and Dave (Kathy), sisters: Sharon and Phyllis (Glen), brother: Richard, 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, and dear friends Dan and Esther Peterson and their two children. Preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Marie Walker, Granddaughter Mischa, brother in-law Earl, and sister in-law Lila. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local food bank.
