Adel Thomas Wilkes January 30, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Mrs. Adel Thomas Wilkes, loving wife of the late David B. Wilkes, Jr. passed away on Wednesday morning, January 30, 2019 at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. A longtime resident of Augusta, she retired as a bookkeeper at the Medical College of Georgia. Mrs. Wilkes had been a devoted member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church since 1951 where she was also a member of Amaranth. She was an avid supporter of the Augusta Green Jackets baseball team, enjoyed attending their games and was a longtime Green Jackets Club member. Mrs. Wilkes loved cooking for family, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wilkes is preceded in death by a son, Rev. Canon Larry Glynn Wilkes Sr., a grandson, Hunter Lee Scarborough and a great granddaughter, Kori Jean Matthai. She leaves behind two daughters: Kay W. Simon and husband, Joey of Grovetown and Mary W. Young and husband, Joe of Evans; a son: David Baum Wilkes, III and wife, Jean of Augusta, daughter in law, Debbie Wilkes (wife of son; the late Rev. Canon Larry Glynn Wilkes, Sr.), sister: Kadel Williams; brother: Rev. Paul Thomas; eight grandchildren, Rebekah Wilkes Luty (Mark), Laura Wilkes Smiley (Duncan), Angela Kay Scarborough, Larry Glynn Wilkes, Jr., Jeremy Adam Mendenhall, Stewart Allan Mendenhall (Karen), Kerryl Spivey (Joey), and several great and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 10:00 am in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Home, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA; followed by a service of committal to be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday from the graveside in Northview Cemetery, Dublin, Georgia.
