OBITUARY William Bates Smith November 12, 1928 – November 19, 2018 Play Tribute Movie William Bates Smith born November 12, 1928 in Harlem, New York. He had 7 children; William, Amar, Asia, William, Shalar, Patricia and Shirley. William served in the United States Army, in which he had an honorable discharge. After his stint in the military, he then worked for the United States Postal Service. He retired from the USPS to work as a truck driver for Preston trucking company. He then retired from trucking to relocate to Tampa, Florida. In Florida, he wanted to stay occupied so he worked for Food Lion. In which, my dad retired and enjoyed life with his wife, children, grandchildren and a multitude of great grandchildren. My dad influenced a great many people with his positive outlook on life. He was a hardworking man and well respected by many. He will be greatly missed and honored by the many lives that he touched.
