Obituary for Virginia R. Davis Virginia R. Davis, age 98, of Edwardsville, Illinois died at 12:52 a.m. Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon. Virginia retired in 1972, after 34 years as a clerk in the Madison County Clerk’s office in Edwardsville. She was born April 8, 1920, in Edwardsville the daughter of the late Warren & Bertha (Hotz) Baird. She married Wilbur “Wib” Davis on January 3, 1942 in Edwardsville. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2003. Virginia is survived by two nephews, Gary Forshaw and John R. Burk of Edwardsville; nieces, Terrie Stunkel & husband Mark, Judy Poeling & husband John, Linda Castens all of Edwardsville, Janice Wiedey & husband Richard of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Debbie Peck & husband Jim of St. Peters, MO; also great & great great nieces & nephews and 1 great great nephew. She was preceded in death by her sister, Berniece Baird, 3 sisters-in-law, Carol Burk, Norma Smoltz, and Eva Merle Forshaw; and 2 brothers-in-law, Robert Davis and Burl Gilbert. Virginia was a life time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, having served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the choir for 38 years. She was also a past member and officer of the Order of Eastern Star. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the First Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Rev. Dr. John Hembruch officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church.
