Obituary for Tom Opel Thomas F. Opel, age 77, of Edwardsville, passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois. He was born June 14, 1941, in Litchfield, Illinois, the son of the late Edward & Mildred (Neuhaus) Opel. Tom owned and operated Opel Construction Company in Edwardsville. He is survived by his wife Linda (Linksvayes) Opel of Edwardsville; two daughters Kammy Hoenig & husband Rich of Edwardsville, Carla Bain & husband Todd of Edwardsville; his granddaughter, Kalyn Hoenig; brother, Keith Opel & wife Gail of Edwardsville; and his brother in law, Neil Young of Tennessee. Tom was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth & James Opel; and a sister Sharon Young. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville. Tom was an avid waterfowl hunter and loved spending time with his family and friends at his farm in Mozier, Illinois, A.K.A. The Ruddy. He will be cremated according to his wishes and a private family service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville at a later date, with Rev. John Shank officiating. A celebration of life will be held later this spring. The family request memorials to the Trinity Lutheran Church in care of Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville.
