Obituary for Thomas R. Burns Sr. BRUNSWICK – Thomas R. Burns, Sr., passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Robert and Ethel Howells Burns, Jr. He graduated from Shaker High School. He served in the Marine Corp Reserves for 6 years. He worked for St. Patrick’s Cemetery and later for Al Tech Specialty Steel for 25 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Watervliet AOH for 54 years where he held various offices. He was honored as Hibernian of the Year in 2001. He enjoyed playing slots at the Saratoga Racino and buying lottery tickets. His hobby was feeding birds and he loved his two cats, Mickey and Toby. He is survived by his wife Eleanor of 52 years; his son Thomas Jr. of Cohoes; a brother, Robert (Nancy) of Ocala, FL; his sister, Linda Bussiere of Beaver Falls, PA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to the doctors and the nursing staff of the ICU at Samaritan Hospital for their care and compassion. The funeral will be Friday at 8:30 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-7 pm. Donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
