Obituary for Sister Jane McDermott, O.P. SISTER JANE MCDERMOTT, O.P., formerly Sister Michael Joseph, a member of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Blauvelt, New York, for the past 58 years died on November 27, 2018 in St. Martin De Porres Community at the Motherhouse. She was 78 years of age. Sr. Jane was born to Joseph and Elizabeth Rogan McDermott in Yonkers, New York. She entered the Sisters of St. Dominic on September 8, 1960 from Holy Rosary Parish in Yonkers. She received the Dominican Habit on June 15, 1961, professed her first vows on June 17, 1962, and final vows on June 30, 1968. Sister received a BS in Education from Dominican College, and a MS in Education from New Paltz University. Her many years in ministry were devoted to educating youth and young adults. She taught at St. Catharine’s in Blauvelt, N.Y. (1963-1968); Our Savior, Bronx, N.Y.(1969-1970); Holy Rosary, Yonkers, N.Y.(1970-1972); St. Martin De Porres, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.(1972-1981); St. Joseph’s, Demarest, N.J. (1981-1990.) Sr. Jane then ministered at Dominican College, Orangeburg, N.Y. as an Instructor of Education (1990-1994; 1995-2005; 2011-2015), and was acting Director of Teacher Education (1994-1995). She served the Congregation as Secretary General (2005-2011). In addition to her religious congregation, Sr. Jane is survived by her cousins Mary Jane Rogan Thompson, Robert Rogan and Paul Rogan.
