Obituary for Robert “Bob” Joseph Kern Robert “Bob” Joseph Kern of St. James, Missouri passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born on January 16, 1948 in Kirkwood, Missouri. He was loved and adored by his parents Harold, and Trudy (Heims) Kern. After high school Bob proudly served his Country in the United States Army. He later attended college and became a Fire Fighter/ Paramedic. Bob loved his job and the people community he served. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Aurora, Colorado Fire and Rescue Company then moved to St. James, Missouri, and bought a little farm just outside of town, where he built a beautiful home and met the love of his life Mary Duncan Strauss, they were married on August 18, 2001. This union was also joined with his son, and her three sons. with four children. Bob really enjoyed working outside on the farm, he would always plant a big garden, and was always proud to share the bounty of his harvest with family and friends. In his “retirement years” Bob found much joy driving a school bus, not only did it give him something to do in the cold months that he couldn’t be working the farm, but it also brought him great joy to get to know the children of the area. Bob loved God, his Country, and adored his family, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all, he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. Robert Joseph Kern is survived by his mother Trudy Kern, of Muncee, IN; wife Mary, of the home; son, Clinton Kern, of St. James, MO; step-sons, Jacob Duncan and wife Janessa, of Pacific, MO, Jeremiah Duncan and wife Kati, of Pacific, MO, and Joshua Duncan, of Pacific, MO; brother, Warner Kern and wife Debbie of Elizabeth, CO; sister-in-law, Linda Taylor and husband Lowell, of Pope, MS; brothers-in-law, Peter Strauss, of Pacific, MO, and William Strauss and wife Cathy, of Lebanon, TN; step-grandchildren, Dalton and Macie Duncan, Autumn and Kylie Duncan, Morgan Hanphin, Cash and Carter Askins, Kenton and Tyler Duncan; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Kern; sister, Diane Bjornson; brother-in-law, John Strauss. Funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 12:00Pm with Pastor Gary Lane officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 10:00AM until service time.
