Obituary for Robert Arthur Benson WINDHAM—Robert Arthur Benson, 78, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2018 at Ledgewood Manor in Windham. He was born in Lewiston on April 14, 1940, a son of Arthur and Ada (Pearl) Benson. Robert grew up in Mechanic Falls and was a graduate of Mechanic Falls High School and went on to attend the University of Maine at Orono. On June 2, 1962, he married Judith Larrabee and together they raised their family in Gorham. Bob enjoyed politics and was a Representative in the 102nd Maine State Legislature. During his time at the State House, he was proud to sponsor the Range Pond State Park bill. He spent his career working in the safety and research departments at S.D. Warren. While at the mill, Bob created two patents which are still used today. Some of Bob’s talents included gardening, cooking, tying flies, and most notably, woodworking. During his retirement, he worked at the Woodworker Warehouse and Aubuchon Hardware. In his younger years, Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and ski trips with his family and friends. Bob was best paired with a great listener and he enjoyed talking with most everyone he encountered. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith Benson of Windham; children, David Benson of Westbrook, and Wendy Gushee of Windham; grandchildren, Andrew Benson and his wife Jessica of Alfred, Holly Nicoll and her husband Tyler of San Diego, Heather Benson of San Jose, CA, Marc Benson of Westbrook, and Jessica Cieslak and her husband Aaron of Windham and their children, Austin, Mason and Lucas; siblings, Mary Ann Dexter and her husband Tom of Norridgewock, Arthur James Benson of Hampden, and Michael Benson and his wife Raette of Whiteside, TN. He was predeceased by his parents, and a grandson Eric Benson. The family would also like to thank the staff for the wonderful care Bob received while at Ledgewood. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 1pm to 3pm at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, Windham, ME 04062.
