Michael Frederick Manning, age 79 of Portland, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018. He was born on December 12, 1939 the son of Donald and Florelle (Morelle) Manning. Mike was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus #2168 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #1039. He loved flying and was a pilot and Major in the Civil Air Patrol. He enjoyed being an amateur radio operator (N8EUQ) and an occasional visit to the casino. Mike retired from the State of Michigan in 1997 after 34 years of service as a Systems Analyst. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his siblings, John Manning, Nancy (Larry) Schueller and Steven Manning; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 3, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan or the Fr. Flohe Fund in memory of Mike. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
