MELONI JAMES BIRTLEY December 17 2018

Obituary for MELONI JAMES BIRTLEY Meloni James Birtley, 52, left this broken world and entered her eternal rest to receive her heavenly reward on December 17, 2018. She was a resident of Hueytown, AL. She was born August 3, 1966 in Madison, TN., to Roger and Janice James (survivors). She is survived by her husband Billy Birtley, daughter Shanna Mead (Nathan, son-in-law), sons Jonathan and William Eric Birtley, parents Roger and Janice James, sister Memori Weaver (Lee, brother-in-law), grandchildren Ella and Peyton Mead, nieces Hannah-Lee and ElliAnn Weaver, and nephew Levi Weaver. She is preceded in death by uncles John W. and Don Duke. Meloni was a 1984 graduate (Valedictorian) of Hueytown High School and attended Auburn University. Meloni was an office/production manager for Southern Nameplate Graphics (SNG) in Bessemer, AL for ten years. Her co-workers loved her as a friend, mentor, counselor and confidant. SNG’s clients appreciated her no-nonsense and forthright approach to business. SNG will never be the same without Mel’s contagious laugh. In 1996 she met and married the love of her life, William (Billy) David Birtley. On the night of her passing she wrote, “Abundantly blessed to live this life with you by my side!” Meloni was passionately devoted to her family. She loved her children and grandchildren. Her motherly advice was direct, at times brash, but always from the heart and couched with love. On December 16th, she celebrated 22 years of marriage. Meloni had a servant’s heart. She was involved in several civic organizations within the Hueytown community. Many people within the community loved Meloni because of her service to the community. Meloni had many passions, but none were greater than her Lord Jesus Christ and His church. She knew what it meant to be saved by Jesus and, as a result, had a passion to share that love with all she knew. To know Mel was to know Jesus. She lived in such a way as to reflect the light of Jesus. Generations of children have sat at her feet and learned the Gospel of Jesus in ways that only Meloni could express it. Friends and strangers alike have come to know about God’s love by simply knowing Mel. Meloni loved fiercely, loved hard, loved deeply and loved generously. She had an extremely tender heart willing to provide a willing ear and shoulder to cry on. Meloni loved the Lord her God with all her heart, soul and mind. She also loved her neighbor as she loved herself. Mel loved. What a great testimony! The visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 10:00 AM, at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery.
