Marion Dexture Vaughn February 18, 1973 – December 09, 2018 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences Marion Dexture Vaughn was born on February 18, 1973 to the late Van Elizabeth Walker and Willie Roy Shell. He was the brother of eight siblings, Gwendolyn Cameron (deceased), Norman Vaughn (deceased), Lendolyn Barton, Denise Vaughn-Sims and Wanda Vaughn and three half sisters, Barbara Shell all of the Bronx, NY, Jackie Shell of Maryland and Pamela Shell of Baltimore. Marion Vaughn, also known as Kevin grew up on 176th Street in the Bronx where he attended public school. He was as cute as a button, full of life and would brighten up any room he entered. He was a comedian and made people laugh with his great sense of humor. Dexture AKA “Uncle Dex” was loved by his nieces and nephews. He spent time joking, play fighting, and taking them to amusement parks. He was a cool babysitter too. They looked up to him and wanted to be around him. He was Uncle Dex and there will never be another Uncle Dex. He was a great cook. He spent countless hours learning how to prep and prepare meals in the kitchen with his mother and siblings. Because of this experience he grew a love for food and family. Dex was a natural in the kitchen. From making his infamous pan size Aunt Jemima buttery pancakes served with warm syrup and a glob of margarine, or his award winning bowl of Corn Flakes topped with four tablespoons or more of krasdale sugar and chocolate chip cookies, smothered in ice cold milk and for the late night snack; he would design a tower of assorted “now-a-laters” melted on a hot radiator. It was the beginning of a world wind of flavor. And he did it all with pizzazz. The boy was bad! As he grew up he enjoyed working with his hands. He worked in construction as a flagger, as an assistant in an electric company, as a sous chef in a men’s shelter and he eventually pursued an education in culinary arts. Dex was the man on the grill during family functions. He enjoyed serving others the food he cooked. It gave him joy knowing it was what he created that warmed and filled their bellies. Dexture was a handful among all his siblings. He was the one who kept his family on their knees. He lived his life the way he wanted to. Exploring the world in ways that some people thought was crazy. He tried new things and rejected others. He fought for his life when faced with opposition and over came the toughest challenges. When people thought he was down for the count he rose above it. He just wouldn’t stay down. He was a fighter!! A contender whom was loved by many. Dex was also bilingual. He spoke English and Spang-lish (alright Spanish) which he picked up as he dealt with people. He had a desire to learn multiple languages. He said he had to learn how to communicate with different people, including those in the Chinese restaurant. In addition, in 1992 he was baptized in Jesus’ name, he confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Not only was he a fighter he was indeed a winner. On the 9th of December of the year of 2018, Marion Dexture Vaughn left this life and entered eternal rest awaiting the glorious sound of the trumpet of God. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: three sisters, Lendolyn Barton, Denise Vaughn-Sims, and Wanda Vaughn; three half sisters, Barbara Shell, Jackie Shell, and Pamela Shell; two aunts, Ethel Vaughn of the Bronx, New York and Cora Vaughn of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Conrad Barton and Eugene Cameron; twelve nieces and eleven nephews, Conrad Barton, Jr., Dequan Vaughn, Daquan Vaughn, Neville Vaughn, Zion Barton, Daquan (Chocolate) Shell, Aaron Sims, Jr., Jeffery Jones, Elijah Sims, Aarron Birchett, Navon Birchett, Dasha Vaughn, Neffe Vaughn, Destenemonae Barton, Charizma Sims, Nevaeh Birchett, Dyauna Foreman, Kenya Shell, and April Shell; four great nieces, Brianna Vaughn, Kyla Vaughn, Soleil Gwendolyn Vaughn, and Sanala Sade Vaughn all of the Bronx, New York; and a host of cousins and close friends.
