Marilyn J. Leiter, 81, of Van Wert, passed away at 3:10 PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice. She was born November 29, 1937 in York Township, Van Wert County, to the late P. Ray and E. Pauline (Hauter) Mihm. A 1955 graduate of Rockford High School, Marilyn married the love of her life, Richard L. Leiter on June 12, 1959. They spent their entire life together in the same house. She and Dick were longtime members of Antioch Chapel Friends Church before it closed. Marilyn taught Sunday school and volunteered her time with the youth group. She began her grocery career at Avery’s Market in Rockford. She went on to work for many years at Bell’s Triangle Market and Rager’s Country Butcher Shop before retiring from Marsh Supermarket. She also worked at the Van Wert Times Bulletin for a time. She is survived by her husband, Richard Lee Leiter of Van Wert; daughter, Joyce (Steve) Bittner of rural Decatur, Indiana; son, Gary (Molly) Leiter of rural Newbury, Ohio; son-in-law, David E. Packer of Rural Van Wert; sister, Madeline (Ralph) Bornhorst of Sidney; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Packer and sister, Katherine Wallick. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to the Gideon’s bibles for children or to CHP Inpatient Hospice.
