Obituary of John Richardson John is predeceased by his parents, Thomas & Dorothy Richardson; brothers David Richardson & Charles Richardson; sister-in-law Kathy Richardson. He is survived by his wife Lynn (Locklin) Richardson; children, Matt (Andrea) Richardson & Aimee (Dan Hodge) Richardson; grandchildren, Kira Skye Hodge, Kaitlin Richardson & Emily Richardson; siblings, Jim (Donna) Richardson, Ron (Don Wallenhorst) Richardson, Ken (Sue) Richardson, Tom (Lynn) Richardson, Mary (Rick Mundrick) Capuano; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Jane Richardson, Nancy Richardson, Bruce (Dolores) Locklin, Diane Strife, Janis (Jim) Huber, James (Cheryl) Locklin; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. John’s life story will be shared Thursday, December 6th, 2-4 & 6-8 at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, (between 390 & Long Pond Rd.). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, December 7th, 9:30 AM at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Rd., immediately followed by his burial in Falls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, NY 14620 in honor of John. John was the 6th of 8 children, one of 7 boys. He went to St. John’s. He often got into trouble, getting thrown out of school in the morning. He’d cross the street to Naum’s, go home for lunch and then try to go back to school hoping the nuns would forget they threw him out in the morning. The rule in the Richardson house was that you didn’t get a car until you turned 18. John bought a 1935 Ford Coupe at age 16 and worked on it for 2 years before it was drivable. It was against the rules, but his father admitted much later that it was the best thing because he always knew where John was. The car was still in his possession and John’s son took him for a ride well into October 2018. John served in the army from July 1966-July 1968. He was stationed at Fort Richardson in Alaska. One Christmas, to the surprise of his family, he flew to Fort Dix on the transport plane carrying fallen soldiers from Vietnam. John was a devoted husband and father. He loved his grandchildren very much and loved to see their artistic creations. He also had a big heart for his kitties and was always spoiling them and letting them get away with all sorts of naughty things, much to Lynns’s amusement. It took two tries, but John and Lynn took a once in a lifetime trip to Alaska a few years ago. They were able to visit Fort Richardson, traveled the Dalton Highway, went to the Arctic Circle, visited Coldfoot, and got to see the Northern Lights. John was a volunteer fireman with Greece Ridge for many years, along with several of his brothers. After John retired from the Town of Greece DPW after 28 years of service, he drove trucks for Genesee Ford as well as well as worked as a courtesy shuttle driver for Ralph Pontiac/Honda. He liked to watch Nascar and the Hallmark channel. He loved hunting with his father and brothers, and, later, his nephews and son. He liked to show off his Ford in the Rochester Street Rods Club. He enjoyed watching his son, Matt play hockey at Lakeshore and supporting the Rochester Ice Cats. The whole family enjoyed camping and with many great memories of those trips. John loved to laugh and make other people laugh. He was a natural charmer and could talk to anyone. The goal of his entire working career was retirement and he made the most of it. He was a loving friend, brother, father & husband.
