John A Grimes III September 1 1930 December 20 2018 (age 88)

WILLIAMSPORT – John “Jack” Alfred Grimes, 88, passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, December 20, 2018. He was the husband of Velna (Moore) Grimes and the son of the late John and Pearl (Mitchell) Grimes. After Jack graduated from the WAHS in 1947, he served in the US Airforce during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the Military Police. Upon returning home, he worked at Bethlehem Steel for 38 years. In retirement, he drove for Susquehanna Transit for 13 years. Jack was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and an Emeritus member of the Board of Trustees. Jack also loved singing in the church choir. In addition to his wife, he is survived by he children; Jacqueline (Guy) Brown of Dallas, TX, John Grimes of Portland, OR William Grimes of Williamsport and Bruce Grimes of Sunbury, one step-son; Keynon Shadd of Mount Vernon, NY, ten grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Delphine Anderson, Alverta Green, Maxine Rhodes and Pauline Bailey and step-son; Eric Shadd. Services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 433 Walnut St., Williamsport. Visitation will be 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with the funeral to begin at 12 p.m. Pastor Conrad Gibson will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. Arrangements being handled by Maneval Allen Redmond Cremation & Funeral Home.
