Irene Agnes (Veselicky) Ruzbacki, 89, of East Vandergrift, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 in QLS- West Haven Manor, Washington Township. Born October 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank K. & Camilla (Biernat) Veselicky. Irene lived in North Vandergrift until she married Paul T. Ruzbacki on June 6, 1951, who passed away on February 20, 2002, and then moved to East Vandergrift. Irene graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1947. After graduating,… Read More » Irene got a job working at the Alcoa Research Lab in New Kensington. A devoted wife and mother, Irene’s other jobs while married and raising her children included working at the East Vandergrift Bakery, Gils Drug Store, Ben Franklin, Big Lots, The Fashion Store, and the United Way. Irene was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in East Vandergrift, and a past member of the Altar Society. Before Irene was married, she was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in East Vandergrift. As a member of the church Sodality, Irene was voted by the Sodality and the church pastor to be the May Queen at the May Devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary, a very proud honor for Irene and her family. Irene was the most caring, kindest, and generous person, and never had a bad thing to say about anyone or anything. She was always cooking for her family. No one ever left her house hungry. Among her many specialties were her famous pigs-in-a-blanket, and rigatoni. Irene loved playing cards and was a member of a women’s card club, enjoyed going bowling, and playing the “word game” and Scrabble with her family. In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, John, and Rudy Veselicky; sisters, Margaret Veselicky & Mary Mazanek; and brother-in-law, Alvin Mazanek. Irene was loved and will be deeply missed by her children, Kathy (Henry Hovanik) Ruzbacki of East Vandergrift, Tom (Tracy) Ruzbacki of Frederick, MD, Diane (Anthony) Giotto of Vandergrift, Ron (Monique Savorey-Caro) Ruzbacki of Hollidaysburg; brother: Albert (Darlene) Veselicky of East Vandergrift; sisters-in-law: Loretta Veselicky of Avonmore, Millie Veselicky of Lower Burrell; grandchildren, Kevin, Nicole, Jennifer, Molly, Brad; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. in the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 100 Owens View Ave. Apollo. Additional viewing will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 8:45 a.m. until parting parts of transfer at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, East Vandergrift, with Father Michael Sciberras as celebrant. Interment in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift. The family suggests Contributions made to a charity of one’s choice in Irene’s memory.
