Obituary for Herb (Herbert Ernest) Jones Herbert Ernest “Herb” Jones, 89, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Herb was born April 19, 1929, in Jacksonville, Florida, to parents Leon David Jones, Sr. and Mary Chason Jones. Herb graduated in 1947 from Andrew Jackson High School. He moved to Pensacola in January 1956 and met the love of his life, Carolyn Brooks. They married on June 9, 1956. He worked for Gulf Life Insurance for 35 years. After retiring from Gulf Life he went to work for Bass Furniture Store in Pensacola. Herb was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Milton. He served as Sunday School Director of First Baptist for 21 years; he also served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School Teacher, on the Greeting Committee, and many other places as the need for a volunteer arose. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon David Jones, Sr.; his brother, Leon David, Jr.; and his sister, Nell McKinney; and his daughter-in-law, Annette Jones. Herb is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Jones; his son, Daniel B. Jones; two grandchildren, Brooke Jones and Susanne Jones; a brother, William T. (Betty) Jones; and his sister, Sara Norman. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 26, 2018, in Bamberg Chapel of First Baptist Church of Milton, with Dr. David Spencer officiating. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
