Obituary for Helen J. Wood Helen J. Wood, known as Joyce, 95, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Holly Manor Center in Mendham, New Jersey. Mrs. Wood was born June 23, 1923, in New Brunswick, New Jersey to the late Demitri and Anna Sgourakis. In 1971, she relocated from Florida and settled in Bernardsville. Joyce owned and operated several beauty shops; the last was Salon 18 in East Brunswick. She had several careers before retiring such as Real Estate Agent, decorator, and hotel entertainment manager. After retiring she enjoyed many local senior groups, among them, Chapter II and the Happy Rockers. She participated in municipal activities and day trips. She especially liked going to Atlantic City and playing card with her friends. She also enjoyed many hand crafts and watercolor painting. The Adult Day Care Center of the Visiting Nurses Assoc. of Somerset Hills gave her many pleasurable hours in her later years. Mrs. Wood was predeceased by her son, Samuel Wood; her siblings, John and George Sgourakis and her sisters, Chi Chi Wallraff, and Mary Kuklakis. She is survived by her daughter, Johanna Wissinger and her son-in-law Spencer of Bernardsville, NJ, her brother, Steve Sgourakis; her granddaughter, Crystal; her great grandsons, Ethan and Tristan and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. Visitation will be held at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, NJ 08873, on Thursday, December, 20th from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Rd., Piscataway, NJ. Burial will follow at the Van Liew Cemetery, 585 Georges Rd., North Brunswick, NJ.
