Gaylord P. Kaatz, gentleman, scholar, sportsman, traveler and most importantly, loving husband and father passed into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, December 2, 2018. For 56 years Gaylord was the beloved husband of Margaret T. Kaatz and the father of two fabulous and beloved sons, Glen P. Kaatz and Matthew St. John Kaatz. Gaylord was a devoted Grandpa to Christopher, Gregory, Matthew, Madeleine, Molly and Nicholas, as well as the revered father-in-law to Nicole (Glen) and Tina (Matt). Gaylord… Read More » was born in New York City on January 31, 1936 to Antoinette and Amino Perretti, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in Valley Stream, Long Island where he became a hurdler and a member of the rifle team. He later attended St. John’s University, Jamaica campus, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in science. He taught for 32 years in the New York State school system before teaching in the International School System. Gaylord was an avid traveler and was always grateful to have had the opportunity to live overseas; two years in Athens, Greece and two years in Istanbul, Turkey. Gaylord and Margaret visited many parts of the world and always came back with wonderful stories and great friends. The quiet, dignified man we know as Gaylord Kaatz will be sorely missed by his friends and loved ones. A mass will be held at 3:30 PM Friday, December 7 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pigeon Forge, TN with Father Kane officiating. A reception will follow at the church.   1. Dear Peg, I was so sorry to hear of Gaylord’s death. I think of you always. My husband , Tom, died last fall in September after almost 55 years, so I am well aware of what you are going through.
