Felix (Phil) A. Scardapane Jr., age 91, died at Livingston Hills Nursing Home on December 18, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, January 25, 1927, he was the son of Dr. Felix A. Scardapane Sr. and Maria (DeLuca) Scardapane. Felix is survived by his wife Paula Washburn of Elizaville and son Felix and daughter Gloria; brother Joseph and sisters Marie and Rita survive. A son Robert predeceased him. Felix’s first wife Elizabeth died in 2005. Felix graduated from Columbia University and Emory University with a PhD in Geology. He retired from Wappingers Central School where he taught science, biology, and ecology. He was the first in the area to recognize the importance of Earth Day. He was involved in a multitude of organizations including Fishkill Planning Board, President of Fishkill Historical Society, Boy Scout Master and the Museum of Rhinebeck History to name a few. He was instrumental in saving the Van Wyck Homestead Museum. In his retirement, Phil enjoyed traveling around the country, exploring National Parks and rock hounding. He enjoyed life! He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Memorial donations can be made to the Dutchess County SPCA in Hyde Park.
