Curtis’ Obituary Curtis A. Coutts, age 82, died on December 20 at Sandhill Cove. He was an Emeritus Professor of Physical Education at Binghamton University NY) where he spent 35 years as a faculty member and an administrator. For 23 years he also coached tennis. Curt had an A.B. degree from Oberlin College; both MS and PhD. degrees from University of Maryland. He was proud of being inducted into the B.U. Athletic Hall of Fame, and of being a charter member of the Heisman Club at Oberlin. Most recently Curt took pride in being Chair of the Scholarship Committee of the Sandhill Cove Foundation. But he was most proud of his family. Called “Coach” by his grandchildren, he treasured his time with them and he enjoyed many family reunions. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane and by children: David, Barbara (Brian) and Andrew (Kathy); grandchildren Katie (Mike), Erin (Chris), Laura, Cooper, Avery and Ellery; great grandchildren Addison and Theodore. Before moving to SHC, Curt was an active member of Miles Grant C.C. Generally a man of few words, but known for his subtle, dry wit, Curt’s favorite saying was “I would rather have people wonder why I’m not talking than why I am.” His request was to have memorial contributions sent to SHC Foundation, Inc. 1500 SW Capri St., Palm City, FL 34990 for the scholarship fund. A Celebration of life service will be December 28, 2018 at SHC. Read More
