Obituary for Richard Afraid of Bear Richard Afraid of Bear was born on August 9, 1933 in Pine Ridge, SD to George Afraid of Bear, Sr. and Annie K. Afraid of Bear. Richard was a fancy dancer and was an original Slim Buttes Singer in the 1960’s to the 1980’s. Richard passed away on August 29, 2016 in Yankton, SD. Richard is survived by his brothers, Fred Afraid of Bear, Sr. and George Afraid of Bear, Jr. both of Slim Buttes, SD; sisters, Rose Afraid of Bear-Becenti of Slim Buttes, SD, and Ester Afraid of Bear of Fort Hall, ID; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his father, George Afraid of Bear, Sr.; mother, Annie K. Afraid of Bear; and brothers, Ernest Afraid of Bear, Joseph Afraid of Bear; Steven Afraid of Bear; Francis Afraid of Bear, and Bob Afraid of Bear. Wake Services: Two night wake services with the first night starting at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 5, 2016 at the Re-Creation Center, Oglala, SD and the second night at the Afraid of Bear Residence on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Slim Buttes, SD.
