Obituary for Leanne Grace Hansen With tenderness and love we announce the passing of Leanne Grace Hansen, who, after enduring a rapid advance of ALS, quietly slipped away early on the morning of November 7th. She was born February 24, 1962 in Seattle Washington as the youngest daughter of Harold and Lois Haigh. During her youth she was active in diving, drill team, ballet, piano, loved baking, and became a gifted and award-winning artist, which she continued through motherhood. Entering BYU in 1980, she joined the International Folk Dancers, touring the world with them up to her graduation in 1985, with a degree in Travel Tourism and Business Marketing. Leanne and her husband, Eric Hansen, were married April 19, 1985 in the Salt Lake Temple. She is survived by her six children: Ben (Sara, grandson Noah, 1), Matthew (Annie), Mariel (Nicholas, granddaughters Emmy 4, Wren 2, and Lucy 10 months), Evan, Jeff, and Claire; and by her mother, Lois “Pete” Haigh (95), a brother, Harold H. Haigh, and a sister, Lesley Shay. A loving, dedicated mother, her family lived in Baltimore for 5 years, followed by 10 years in Winnipeg Manitoba before returning to Utah in 2001. Eric’s work at BYU in the School of Music and with the Young Ambassadors gave Leanne more chances to travel, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Brazil, Poland and Russia. Her shining legacy of friendliness, warmth, humor, grace, amazing cooking, joy, and her beaming radiant smile will remain with and bless her family and friends forever. Memorial services will be Saturday November 24, at the LDS Chapel 1000 S. 1600 W. (Hwy 89) Mapleton; open house 9:30-10:50, Memorial 11:00. We are so sorry to hear of Leanne’s passing. We had so many fun times when you all lived in Winnipeg when the kids were young. Leanne was an amazing baker, artist, and mother.
