Jean Thompson was born on March 29, 1929 to Jonas and Amber (Fotheringham) Paulson in Platte, SD. She attended school in rural Platte and graduated from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls, MN. Jean was united in marriage to Ray Thompson on August 25, 1948 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. God blessed their union with five children. After marriage they lived in Froid, MT, Williston, ND, and Henderson, MN before settling in Platte. Recently she moved to Fergus Falls, MN to be closer to family. Jean loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, serving them vanilla shakes & caramel rolls any time of the day or night. She worked at the Platte school lunch program and enjoyed working with children every day. She also worked at the nursing home helping residents at mealtime with patience and care. Jean had a deep faith in Jesus as her Savior and served God throughout her life in various ways. She had the gift of hospitality, always having a pot of coffee ready for visitors. Jean was a prayer warrior for family and friends desiring all to come to faith in Jesus. After moving to Fergus Falls, Jean surprised her family with a talent (hidden from her children) of playing the piano. She could be found playing the piano alone or for a sing along in the community room in her apartment building. Grateful for having shared in Jean’s life: her five children: Gary (Dorinne) Thompson of West Battle Lake, MN, Rick (Cindy) Thompson of Bismarck, ND, Tanda (Joel) Albertson of Leland, IA, Rhonda Weyer of Minot, ND, and Terri (Perry) Hoff of Sioux Falls, SD; 13 grandchildren Cory (Kathy) Thompson, Heidi Mason, Jesse (Karessa) Arbuckle, Stephanie (Nick) Pillatzke, Nate Thompson, Eric (Mindy) Thompson, Brian (Robyn) Thompson, Kerry Thompson, Luke (Monica) Albertson, Erika (Aaron) Willey, Betina (Doug) Fry, Dustin (Trina) Holter and Levi Holter (Lindsay); 29 great-grandchildren; sister, Faith (Gene) Van Zee, brothers-in-law: Howard Thompson and Gordon Carter; sister-in-law, Harriet Thompson; along with many nieces and nephews.
