Obituary for James Floyd Roberts James F. Roberts, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at his home. He was born on May 19, 1929 in Springfield, Missouri; the son of Floyd and Nancy (Wade) Roberts, who preceded him in death. He was married on November 28, 1953, to Jo Ann Lisenby, who died December 29, 2016. Jim graduated from Central High School in Springfield in 1947. He continued his education at the Missouri School of Miners (now the MO Univ. of Science & Technology) and graduated in 1953 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Following graduation, he went to work for the Missouri Highway Department (now the MO Dept. of Transportation). In 1960 he was transferred to Jefferson City, where he served in the Divisions of Maintenance and Planning, and later was promoted to Maintenance Engineer in District 5. He served in that capacity until 1965 when he was promoted to District Operations Engineer in St. Louis. In 1967 he was promoted to District Engineer for the St. Louis area and served in that position until he was promoted and transferred back to Jefferson City, in 1970, as Division Engineer of Design. He continued in that position until his retirement in 1991. Jim was a registered Professional Engineer, past member of the Missouri and National Society of Professional Engineers; life member and past president of the Highway Employees Association; member and past president of the Academy of Civil Engineers at Rolla. He was also a member of the OFC. He served in the Army Reserve for over ten years. He belonged to the American Legion, Masonic Lodge 43AF & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbia. Jim and his wife were avid golfers and belonged to Meadow Lake Country Club for over 30 years. He was active in First Christian Church, serving in various positions and was elected Elder Emeritus. During his retirement years he volunteered his time to various causes, including Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, First Christian Church food pantry, mentoring at East school and the Partners at Capital Regional Hospital. He is survived by his son; J. Mark Roberts (Martha) of Blue Springs, a daughter; Cynthia A. Roberts of Jefferson City, a grandson; Andrew J. Roberts and a granddaughter; Claire Roberts, both of Blue Springs, a sister-in-law; Dixie Bonser of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018 at First Christian Church. Funeral Service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018 at First Christian Church with Rev. Beau Underwood officiating. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in St. Louis or a charity of the donor’s choice.
