Sr Dolores McKenna 1921 2018

Obituary of Sr. Dolores McKenna Sister Dolores (Margaret) McKenna, Sister of Christian Charity, entered eternal life on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Motherhouse in Mendham, New Jersey. Sister was 97 years old. Born in Jersey City, NJ, Sister Dolores was the daughter of Margaret (Kavanaugh) and Thomas McKenna. Sister entered the community of the Sisters of Christian Charity on August 28, 1937. She made her first vows on August 21, 1940 and her final Profession of Vows on August 20, 1946. Over the years Sister labored in the field of Catholic school education both as an elementary school teacher in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and as a secondary school teacher in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Over the years she also served as local superior in several convents. In August 1995 Sister Dolores was assigned to the faculty of Assumption College for Sisters in Mendham. Following her many years of apostolic service, Sister transferred to Holy Family Convent in Danville, PA in 2003 until she moved to the new Motherhouse in Mendham, New Jersey. Sister Dolores is survived by her nephews Thomas Herton, Allendale, NJ and William Herton Monmouth Beach, NJ. Viewing at the Motherhouse will be on Wednesday, October 10, from 2-4 pm with Evening Prayer at 7PM. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 11 at 11 AM in the chapel of Mary Immaculate at the Motherhouse in Mendham. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds will follow the Liturgy. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister’s memory can be made to the Sisters of Christian Charity, Mendham, NJ .
