Samuel C. Merihew, Sr., 75, of Homer, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 26, 2018. A lifelong area resident, he was born March 18, 1943, a son of the late Charles Merihew, Sr. and Erma Stafford Merihew. Sam retired in 2006 from Pall Trinity, where he was employed for more than 30 years. He had a lifetime love of farming, and enjoyed his hobby farm on Cold Brook Road. Surviving are his children, Sarah A. Merihew and Samuel C. Merihew, Jr., both of Marathon; three grandchildren, Abby Lain Alexander, Mariah Merihew and Mikayla Merihew. Also surviving is a brother, Roger (Kornelia) Merihew of Georgia and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Stephanie Merihew Price; a brother, Charles Merihew and a sister, Elsa Heller. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3. 2018 at Marathon Cemetery, with Pastor Archie Smith officiating. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Donald L Barber Funeral Home, 5016 US Route 11, Homer. Memorial contributions in Mr. Merihew’s memory are asked to consider the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 or to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
