Salvatore P. Mormando, 87, of Warren, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Saturday evening, October 27, 2018, at his residence. He was born December 25, 1930 in Niles, a son of Joseph and Maria (Ragazzo) Mormando. Sal was a 1949 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, and was employed as the visual merchandising manager for JC Penney in the Southern Park Mall for 47 years, retiring in 1993. He married the former Mary Lou Hayes on October 17, 1959. They shared 59 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him. Sal was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Niles, where he served as a lector and decorator, and he helped to start the first contemporary music group at the church as well. He was also a well known drummer with the Paul Villeco Band. Sal worked in prison ministry for 27 years, and he also enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and working with his hands. His greatest joy was his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Besides his wife, Sal is survived by three children; Joseph R. Mormando, of Warren, Jolene R. (Craig) Kikta, of Austintown, and Jason R. Mormando, of Duluth, MN. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; Joshua (Carrie), Alyssa, Jordan, and Katie Stipanovich, and Jacob Kikta; and four great grandchildren; Adrianna, KrisLynn, Joshua, and Olivia. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rocco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 PM Monday, November 5, 2018, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 381 Robbins Ave., Niles, with the Rev. Fr. John Michael Lavelle as celebrant. Friends may call 2 – 5 PM Sunday, November 4th, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 North Park Ave., Warren. Interment will take place in the Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna. Sal’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Crossroads Hospice and all the health care professionals who have shown so much kindness and compassion to Sal and his family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that material contributions be made to Crossroads Hospice, 9775 Rockside Rd., Suite 270, Valley View, OH 44125, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2415 Niles Rd. SE, Warren, OH 44484, in Sal’s memory.
