Their daughter Barbara was born in New York. After graduation and an internship in New York, they moved to Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Colorado, where Ted served in the army and their daughter Carol was born. Ruth and Ted were tennis players, golf players, bowlers, water skiers and hunters. Ted received many medical awards, including for the establishment of the first ICU (Intensive Care) and CCU (Cardiac Care) units in Carlsbad. At the end of her life, Ruth’s room in the ICU was next to a wall plaque and photo of Ted as the founder. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, her brother (Ralph Bowman) and a son-in-law (Jim Pomares). Survivors include: three daughters: Barbara (Douglas Cameron) of Minneapolis, MN, Carol (Steve Lilley) of Folsom, CA, and Joan (William Permenter) of Spring, TX; seven grandchildren: Jason, Stuart, David, Michael, Mariah, Lori and Traci; thirteen great-grandchildren: Jack, Lucy, Anders, Hayden, Erick, Morgan, Avery, Taylor, Quinn, Rush, Dagny Ruth, Annette, and David Douglas; and Ruth’s sister, Betty Bowman.
