OBITUARY Richard “Pete” Ashton Taylor February 12, 1942 – October 26, 2018 Richard “Pete” Ashton Taylor, 76, of Ashland, passed away October 26, 2018. He was the son of the late Richard Hugh and Alice Vaughan Taylor. He eagerly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Pete proudly served his community as a Firefighter and Hazardous Materials Specialist with the Henrico and Hanover Fire Departments. Pete was nationally known for his contributions to Fire & Hazardous Materials Training. He was also a Police Officer and Communications Officer for Ashland Police Department. He served as President of the Fire Company Association and Ashland Lion’s Club. He was active with Ashland Little League for 20 years and enjoyed serving his community at Pete’s Breakfast & Lunch. Pete is survived by his son, Richard “Petey” Taylor (Sheila); daughter, Kimberly Williamson (John); grandchildren, Ashtyn Taylor, Jamison Taylor and Savannah Williamson and his “brother” and best friend, Mike Harman. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory – Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Highway, Ashland, VA 23005. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 11am at First Baptist Church Ashland, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, VA 23005. Interment will follow in Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ashland Volunteer Fire Company or Ashland Police Foundation.
