Obituary for Richard Loffler MASSENA CENTER – Mr. Richard Lee Loffler, 78, a longtime resident of Massena Center and Vero Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2018 at Massena Memorial Hospital. Richard was born November 6, 1939 in Ogdensburg, the son of the late Leon C. and Doris Alice (Cliffe) Loffler. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and Canton ATC, where he earned a degree in Electrical and Hydraulics. On May 14, 1960, he married Lillian D. Corpron at the Church of the Sacred Heart, with Rev. John Pendergast, officiating. She predeceased him on January 16, 2012. After high school, he worked for a time in the construction of the Seaway. On June 10, 1959, he started worked in machine repair at General Motors, where he continued until his retirement in 1997. While living in Florida, he was a communicant of St. Anatasia Catholic Church and was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church while in Massena. While living in Bedford, Indiana, he joined the Knights of Columbus, where he continued to be a member. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Massena, Massena Moose Lodge, and Massena Senior Citizens. Richard also dedicated his time to his community as a member of Massena Rescue Squad from 1964 until 1984, serving as their secretary/treasurer for many years. He enjoyed playing on his computer, boating, camping and was an avid Syracuse Orangemen Basketball Fan. Of all his enjoyments, one he cherished the most was the time he was able to spend with his family especially his grandchildren. Richard is survived by his four children and their spouses, Kimberly Ann and Raymond Truax of Massena; Richard Charles and Lori Loffler of Massena; David Scott and LeeAnn Loffler of Weeki Wachee, Florida; and Tricia Lynn and Jacques Goulet of Vero Beach, Florida; his grandchildren, Megan Phelix, Mallory Olson, Anthony Loffler, Marissa Herbstler, Jeri and Andrew Loffler, and Tanner and Lillian Goulet; and his great grandchildren, Mason and Peyton Phelix, Quinn and Sawyer Olson, and Cohen Herbstler. He is also survived by sister, Ann Loffler of Ogdensburg; and his brothers, Gary and Veronica Loffler of Jupiter, Florida and Douglas and Teresa Loffler of Ogdensburg; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday 4-7:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:00 AM at the Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial will follow in Massena Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Massena Rescue Squad.
