Diane Elizabeth “Punky” Julson was born November 19, 1935 in Hector Township, Renville County, MN, to Alfred and Agnes (Keltgen) Hefti. She grew up in Olivia and graduated from Olivia High School. Punky married Dean Julson on November 6, 1954 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia and they were blessed with five children. They made their home and farmed at rural Olivia for many years. She had also worked as a Nurses Aid for several years at the Renville County Hospital. In her early years she was active in bowling, softball, and assisting her children with 4-H events. Punky enjoyed playing cards, Scrabble and other board games, and shopping for “bargains” for herself or others. She was a lifelong gardener, often growing plants from seeds, and many marveled at her green thumb. Her large asparagus patch brought many to her home for sales and of course a nice visit. Punky was a wonderful cook and baker, especially making her caramels. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother whether making hearty breakfasts before school or attending her children’s and grandchildren’s events. Most importantly Punky loved the Lord, had a faithful prayer life, and appreciated her faith family at Grace Evangelical Free Church. Punky truly lived a life of service to others. Punky is survived by her four children: Deb (Dave) Pastoors of Olivia, Charlene (Lyle) Bengtson of Spicer, Rick (Joi) Julson of Olivia, and Michael Julson of Sartell; her eleven grandchildren: Jennifer (Adam) Bernardy, Jacob Pastoors (and Sarah), Jessica Pastoors, Joshua Pastoors, Jenessa Pastoors, Chad (Jen) Revier, Danny Bengtson, Jason Bengtson (and fiancé Ashley), Karl (Sara) Julson, Nicholas Julson, and Logan Julson; her twelve great-grandchildren; her sister LaVonne Evans of Denver, CO; and her brother Pat Hefti of Pine River. Punky was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dean; her daughter Linda Julson; her brother Tom Hefti; and her two sisters: Connie Fowler-Tompkins and Mary Brakemeier. Blessed Be Her Memory
