Chester, WV. Norma J. Carpenter, 88, life-long resident of Chester, passed away at the Pepperberry Suites on Thursday, October 11, 2018. Born in Chester on July 8, 1930, Norma was a daughter of the late Charles G. and Pearl Ricky Carpenter. Norma spent her life as an educator of young minds. She retired as a librarian at East Liverpool Schools. Following graduation from Chester High School in 1948, she received her BA in education at Trevecca Nazarene University, then earned a Master’s in Education from Vanderbilt University. She then worked two years at Davidson County Schools in Tennessee before returning to the area to accept a position in the Toronto City School District. She then returned to East Liverpool Schools from which she retired. A devout Christian, Norma belonged to the Chester Church of the Nazarene where she was a very active member, involved in many facets of the church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Carpenter, her sister-in-law, Martha Carpenter, her sister, Elizabeth Hillyard, her brother-in-law, Bill Hillyard, and her special friend, Jim Martin. Surviving are niece’s and nephew’s, as well as her loving church family. Her pastor, Steve Cummings, will celebrate her life at Chester Nazarene Church on Monday, October 15, at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest alongside her family at the Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool. Friends may visit with the family at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
