Obituary for Mary Rebecca “Becky” Staker MORTON – Mary Rebecca “Becky” Staker, 97, of Morton, went to be with the Lord on Sat., Oct. 13, 2018 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton. Becky was born Oct. 6, 1921 in Carver, Mo., to Samuel and Lessie (Burkholder) Carver. She married Howard Staker in 1943. He preceded Becky in death in 1951. She is also preceded in death by one great-grandson; two step-sons, Wallace and Merle; 12 siblings, and son-in-law, Melvin Springer. Surviving are one daughter, Patty Springer of Armington, Ill.; one step-daughter, Peg Loeffelholz of Riverton, Ill.; one step-son, Bill (Marge) Staker of Aledo, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, 25 great- grandchildren, and 28 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, George (Tillie) Carver of Gravois Mills, Mo. Becky worked at Morton Parts Center for Caterpillar Tractor Co., retiring in 1986. Becky grew up in rural Missouri and told exciting stories of that period in her life. She watched as the Lake of the Ozarks was formed, eventually covering some of her family’s farm ground. She was sad that she never had the opportunity to go to high school, but obtained her GED at age 48; she knew hard work and was always willing to help others. Becky was a member of First Mennonite Church in Morton. She especially enjoyed projects at her church including assembling school kits, helping at the Mennonite Relief sale, and making hundreds of pounds of soap for relief. Faith, family, and friends, were very important to her. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wed., Oct. 17, 2018 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m., Thurs., Oct. 18, at First Mennonite Church in Morton, with Rev. Aaron Yoder officiating. Additional visitation will be held at the church prior to the service on Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Tremont. Memorials may be made to First Mennonite Church in Morton, Mennonite Central Committee for Relief, or to St. Jude Runners Association.
