Obituary for Mary L. Smith MARY SMITH MORTON – Mary L. Smith, 80, of Morton, passed away Thur., Oct. 18, 2018 at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. She was born Aug. 3, 1938, in Albion, Mich., to Morris and Lillian (Athey) Hesh. She married C. Lee Smith on Feb. 15, 1958, in Springfield, Ill. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2016. She was also preceded by one son, Bob Smith, in 2001, as well as both parents and her brother, Bob Hesh. Surviving are four sons, Pat (Teresa Hodge) Smith of Chandler, Ariz., Rich (Renee) Smith of Clearwater, Fla., Jim (Wendy Bruce) Smith and Tom (Brenda) Smith, both of Washington; one daughter, Ann (Jim) McGrew of Morton; her daughter-in-law, Angie Smith of Germantown Hills; seven grandchildren, Pat (Jamie) Lowder, and Abby, Nicholas, Rachel, Emma, Elizabeth and Erica Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Paxton, Lucy, Breckin, and Scout Lowder. Also surviving is one sister, Sally (Randy) Robbins of Petersburg, Ill. In her earlier years, Mary worked as a secretary and special education teacher’s aide. She enjoyed painting, playing the piano, golfing, reading and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton. Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, with a memorial Mass following at 11 a.m. Msgr. Jerald Ward will officiate. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton. Memorials may be made to the Morton CUSD 709-Life Academy Fund, 1050 S.
