Obituary for Mary Joan Sattler Mary Joan (Payne) Sattler, 85, passed away in Spokane on Saturday, October 27, 2018. She was born in Spokane, WA in April of 1933, a twin to Herbert and Georgia Payne. Mary Jo’s loves were her family, music, volunteering and friends. She earned a BA in music performance, with emphasis on vocal performance from Whitworth College and the Conservatory of Music. She sang opera with her beautiful voice. Her love of volunteering took her through many avenues. Mary Jo was the proctor for all of the open dress rehearsals for the Spokane Youth Symphony for seventeen years. She served on the board of trustees for the Spokane Youth Symphony for twenty years, and had been a member of the Spokane Opera Buffs for years. Mary Jo was a member of the Red Cross Disaster Team, and she found it quite rewarding to help those that were going through hard times. She was a 4-H leader of the Orchard Prairie Denim Dusters for eleven years. Mary Jo had previously been employed as a recreational therapist, administrator, and consultant to Garden Terrace Manor, Valley View Nursing Home, and Memory Lane, a mental health facility. She had written that her great spiritual strength came from prayer and helping others. She also wrote that it is important in life to be kind, fair, loving, and above all not to discriminate. Mrs. Sattler was preceded in death be her husband Floyd H. Sattler, her daughter Melanie A Sattler, and her twin sister Mary Lou Shute. Mary Jo is survived by her sister Nancy Griffen (Robert), of Spokane, WA, son Tim J. Sattler of Yakima, WA, grandchildren Dylan Sattler and Karly Pitney of Yakima, WA, son Kurt R. Sattler and grandson Nashua of Medical Lake, WA, daughter Tatiana (Tina) M. Brooks (Greg) of Gilbert, AZ, grandson Levi Colton (Laurie), great grandsons Lucas, and newborn great granddaughter Madeline, all of Phoenix, AZ, granddaughter Ginni Colton DeLong, (Jared) and great grandson Blue, all of Trinidad, CA, grandson Cole Rottweiler (Nancy Garland) or Bainbridge Island, WA grandson Lee Rottweiler (Jessica), great grandsons Lucan and Quill all of Zillah, WA, sons of Melanie Sattler, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3, at 12:00 at the Little Church in the Wildwood 8971 Sagle Rd. Sagle, ID 83860, followed by a reception at the Central Grange Hall #831 at 3:30, 7001 E. Bigelow Gulch Rd. Spokane, WA 99217.
